For many refugees, immigrants, and newcomers, having to pay to play soccer — for fields, referees, equipment, and transportation — is a tremendous obstacle.
There are several levels of help you, your business, organization or group can provide.
League Help Greensboro International Soccer League of the Triad (GISLT) is the organizing body that oversees teams. It has direct contact with managers, coaches and captains. Your support for the League helps to pay for organization, communication and transportation costs. All fees that can’t be covered by individual teams (for example, City entry fees to play for the season) the League seeks to pay. The League attempts to assist teams on an as needed basis with transportation and miscellaneous equipment costs. MORE
Targeted Team Help Do you wish to support a particular team? You can donate to the League and specify funds be used to assist the team of your choice. Some are in need of basics such as uniforms, shin guards, and shoes. Contact us for details. MORE
Player Help Many players come without equipment. Often their teams can’t afford to assist individual players and players themselves can’t afford the equipment. Your donation helps a young man walk on the field properly attired and ready to represent his community and team. MORE
Scholarships, Prizes The League wants to promote education, role modeling and mentoring among young men. It wishes to recognize community-builders, exemplary students, leaders and organizers in refugee and immigrant neighborhoods. Your donation can assist young men to make their way from the soccer field to the college classroom. MORE
